A last look back and a glimpse at the future

Fall 2012 brought floods, devastation and acts of nature that New Jersey and numerous other states along the eastern seaboard had never experienced in our lifetime. “Jersey Strong” echoed in our ears throughout the winter, spring and into the Fall of 2013. The trustees of The Jeffrey Frank Wacks Memorial Fund are delighted to report that our Foundation is strong. YOU, our donors continue to acknowledge our efforts and support our mission- to bring comfort and support to cancer patients and their caregivers that extends beyond normal boundaries. Whether they are acts of nature, or diagnoses of cancer, our spirit and resolve are tested. It is critically important they we all have options and choices in our lives. The Jeffrey F. Wacks Music Therapy Program allows patients to choose whether to participate or not-whether to experience the therapeutic “magic” of music and decide if it can ease their pain and bring some comfort and joy to their lives is their choice. All music therapy programs and sessions remain complementary thanks to the generosity of our supporters.

Our two highly qualified music therapists offer one-on-one clinical sessions in the music therapy office and bedside on Simon 5. For others Healing Through Drumming, the Strolling Harp, Listening is Healing, High Tea, the Summer Concert Series and Music in the Atrium, have brought a degree of comfort that medicine cannot supply.

The Jeffrey Wacks Memorial Fund, in addition to funding The Jeffrey F. Wacks Music Therapy Program continues its partnership with The Sam Fox School of Art at Washington University in St. Louis. The Jeffrey Wacks Scholarship recipient for 2013 is Rebecca S. Daniel. Her unparalled talent gained her recognition from Dominic Molon, Chief Curator of the Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis. She was awarded a generous grant from our Foundation that will allow her to continue to create art while she moves forward with her advanced education.

This newsletter is just a snapshot of the year that has past and a only a brief glimpse down the road ahead. The number of people and organizations who have played a part in our success is staggering and heart-warming. As you read the articles and smile at the pictures we extend our deepest thanks for your continued support of our efforts and for honoring the memory of Jeffrey Wacks.
